To be covered by the law, you must hand your baby, up to 30 days old, to an employee or volunteer of a Safe Haven. For more details, please see "How it Works".

Please call 1-800-649-4357 during normal business hours. We can answer your questions about the Safe Haven Law.

We can also refer you to a public health nurse in your area who can:

• Help you find pre-natal care and transportation to pre-natal appointments.
• Give you advice about your options.
• Help you find financial assistance and other support if you choose to keep your baby.
• Refer you to an adoption agency who can help you make an adoption plan for your baby.

Safe Sleep Steps and Checklist

Safe Sleep for your Baby Protect Your Baby's Life

Safe Sleep Steps

   1. Baby should sleep alone in a crib, portable crib or bassinet.

   2. Always put baby on back to sleep even when he/she can roll over.

   3. No pillows, blankets, comforters, stuffed animals or other soft things should be in the sleep area.

   4. Keep baby's face uncovered during sleep for easy breathing. Use a sleeper instead of a blanket.

   5. Don't allow anyone to smoke around the baby.

   6. Don't overheat the baby. Dress the baby in as much or as little clothing as you are wearing.

   7. Use a firm mattress with a tightly fitted sheet.

   8. Place baby in the same sleep position every time.

Please share this information with all family, friends, and other child care providers who may care for your baby to ensure they follow the safe sleep steps.

WARNING!

Babies are dying because they are put to sleep in places that are not safe. Babies always need a safe sleep place. Parents whose babies have died want other parents to know:

    *
      Babies are not safe sleeping on a couch, pillow or anything soft.
    *
      Babies are not safe sleeping with other children, adults or pets.
    *
      Babies are not safe sleeping in adult beds. If you feed your baby in bed, put your baby back into his/her crib to sleep.

Safe Sleep Checklist:

Does your baby sleep and nap in a crib, portable crib or bassinet approved by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)? Find out how to determine if your baby's crib is safe.

Tummy Time

When babies are awake, they occasionally need to be on their tummy, but only if someone is watching. If the baby falls asleep on his/her tummy, place the baby on his/her back to sleep in a safe sleep place.

 I am a 25 year old single mom.  In April I lost my home to a house fire. Everything in the home was lost.  I am currently working part time as a medical transcriptionist, attending online classes part time at Walden University and raising my 2 beautiful babies.  Their father is not involved in our lives, and although I'm working I'm still having trouble making ends meet.  I am looking for anyone that can help with furniture and baby items.  I am also saving for a security deposit for an apartment so that we can move out of the hotel room we are in.  I am thankful to have a roof over our heads, but they deserve a home again.  I am asking for anyone who could donate one dollar to add to my security deposit savings.  I one dollar from each person who has it in their hearts to help has the opportunity to add up fast.  So far through donations I have been able to add $86 and I am so thankful for those 86 people. I can not imagine not being able to play Santa Clause the night of Christmas when they fall to sleep! I remember as child the joy and excitment i felt when i was waiting to fall asleep for santa to come and I want my babies to be able to feel the same way! Christmas Last year was so emmotional and I literally felt like I had failed as a parent. I did everything I could to make there christmas exciting to them since it was my daughters 1sr christmas I really felt like a failure when they woke up on christmas morning they had some things, the things was items that I had put up a few months before that they didnt play with and a few things I was able to get at the dollar store and they actually didnt even no what to do with the toys because they wasnt really for there age bc baby items are expensive alot of times. That afternoon we went to my moms in Minor Hill which is 2 hours away and the kids did get some things from them that they could enjoy,that did help alot but I still felt like they deserved a Christmas Morning w/Santa and then go to grandma's house w/there santa toys to show the family there!! I also no that Chistmas isnt all about toys and gifts,but the main reason is to celebrate Jesus's Birth and my kids will be taught that as they will also see the programs and plays at churches around christmas time.I believe that making sure our kids understand the true meaning of christmas is a GREAT THING TO DO! So that they will be able to celebrate what the gifts are for and why they get the gifts they get for christmas! I no my babies are only 3 and 2 but I am starting to teach them early in life the meaning of alot of things in life that they can understand 

But if there is anyone who can help me out with this or if you can give any advice on giving my babies a christmas morning PLEASE DO SO! ANY INFO IS BETTER THAN NOTHING! I also want to say my prayers are with all the other families going through this situation BCI no how much it hurts not being able to do for your babies what they deserve! I said last year that I would not stop looking for work until I found a job or literally gave out and Im still looking but there arent any jobs anywhere for anything if you dont have a college degree or if you have babies they are like sorry...but hopefully year 2010 will bring us all GREAT Times to come and our Economy will improve for the better for everyone the homeless,poor,average,and the wealthy! Im also hoping to see the ones who are wealthy and who can afford to help families as mine and many other families at this Special Time of the year actually helping as much as possible to make our world a better,loving,caring,joyful,place to live in!!

 Hayden Carter and Abbagail Loise they are my world, my life, my soul! We are in a bind now and really need some help getting on our feet! I was diagnosed with R.A and Lupus about a year ago and two months ago I found out that my cervical cancer has came back and they will have to do more serious treatments this time....being 23 and still so young maybe its easier keeping it together and keeping a hold on my life for my kids but its getting very hard and when i look at my babies and they are looking at me as for i am the 1 person that they look and turn to for anything and everything in life they no nothing else but that..i fund myself feeling ashamed at times for not being able to provide everything i want for them and to take them to the park to play,go to a disney movie and things like that. They only place they get to go is to the grocery when we have a way and to my dr appt or theres if we have a ride to go! WHAT I WANT IN LIFE AND WHY I NEED A CAR SO BAD..I want for me to be able to wake up each morning and drink a cup of coffee then wake my babies up w a good morning kiss and feed them breakfast and get them ready bc they would go to daycare with other kids, and I would be off to work and school some days work half and go to school half! then i would go pick them up and we would go by the park or something for family time together then we would head home for supper and baths and get all tucked in together!!! Then be ready for the next day of life that God brings us! That is what i want for my family now we arent able to go anywhere..i am not able to work so we have no income bc we have no vehichle the world is tough these days but if we all work together for each other we will make a differece!

I need help getting a tombstone for my babies grave. Keslee , Kaden and Jaymie. Keslee has a stone already but i want to get another one so i can put her brothers on the same stone with her. Keslee passed away in my womb when i was 7 1/2 months pregant from a placental abruption from a car accident i was in in 1999. Kaden James was my first son. He was concieved on my honeymoon and due to being a high risk pregnancy and blood clotting disease called factor 8 he passed away in my womb at 23 weeks. Jaymie( James R Dreese 111) was my second son and last child. I was also high risk with him due to blood clotting. He was born three months early Sept 3 2006. He was one pound and three ounces when he was born, He spent every day of his life before he passed away in the nicu. He was a very sick baby. He had a grade three brain hemorrage, NEC, lung infections, rop, Cystic Fibrosis. I spent every day in the nicu with him, I sang to him, read books, PRAYED, I only got to hold him a few times and change his diaper. My ex- husband and i had to take Jaymie off of life support Dec 26, 2006. The dr's told us there was nothing more they could do. We made the unselfish decision to let him go with Jesus. I held him in my arms as he took his last breath. We were hoping that a miracle would hppen and that his infection would go away and he would just start to breath on his own but that did not happen. We burried Jaymie December 29, 2006. That was the third hardest day of my life. I have been not myself every since. I wanted to share my story with the hopes of maybe somebody helping me to get a stone for all three of my babies to be on one. They deserve to be together. I am on Disability and cannot afford to pay for it. My heart would feel so much better if I knew that my babies had a resting stone that honored their memory. If you could help id grealy appreciate it and i will definitley pay it forward in other ways.

hello im mandy and i have lupus and rhuemtoid athrirtis. i have 2 babies haydenand abby they are the only thing that keeps me fighting and God! We live in nashville and have no family here we are staying in a basement of hayden grandmas house but due to my sickness we have no money to get a vehichle to go to the dr and grocery and they dont even akcnowledge us. so im thinking if i can find something to get us dr and grocery and work soon we can get on our feet and get our home and be a family but i keep failing when i try so i decided to ask for help in any way is appreiated! i was going to see if they have any type of charities here or what or where i can get some help. i am not really sure what to do here so here it goes my name is candi i have 2 beautiful little girls ages 1 and 2. me and my boyfriend were living pretty well till the economy went really bad he lost his job and was out of work for two months, anyway, he ended up going to jail cause of some old warrants, and of course i stood beside him having to live off family members. its hard to find a job with two babies and no one to babysit also i have no car.
